Hotel Altis Suites  4

This was a great hotel if you need a place to stay with kids. It is not in the busy section of the city, which is great. A short walk to the metro, which is even better! Surrounding area was clean and friendly. There was a great restaurant a block away with an outside dining area that was a little pricey, but really nice! The Suites are right next to the Altis Hotel which had a pool and great outdoor bar on the 12th floor that provided a nice view of the city. My only negative comment is about the beds. Taking our 2 kids (4 & 6) to Lisbon for 5 days I was faced with a real dilemma as I wanted the luxury of a hotel but the flexibility of an apartment - the Golden Tulip Altis Suites was exactly what we were looking for. Our 1-bed apartment was huge, the kids had two beds set out in the living room, there was a sat tv in both rooms so when the kids had gone to sleep we could watch the tv in our bedroom without disturbing them (liitle things like that make all the difference!). The kitchenette was fairly well equipped and the apartment cleaned every day. The facilities of the sister hotel next door were available to us, including breakfast which we had negotiated in our rate. The suites are located on a quiet road in the financial district but within 15-20 minutes walk to downtown Lisbon or 5-10 minutes to the metro so it was handy for getting around. The last time I was in Lisbon I stayed at the Four Seasons/Ritz. Save your money and stay at the Altis Suites!!! The apartment was very clean, comfortable (great a/c) and it was a nice size. The bathrooms had plenty of counter space and the hotel was very close to the metro. The apartments are right next door to the Altis hotel and you can enjoy their amenities if you so choose. We had a challenge finding a hotel with a suite that would accomodate 2 adults and 2 children. However, the Altis Suites came through for a reasonable price. We loved our room! It had a bedroom, living room, and kitchen. It had comfortable, contemporary decor. It was very clean and spacious. Its conveniently located within walking distance to the center of town. You have access to all the amenaties at the main hotel next door, such as the pool and health club. The housekeeping service was excellent. The only minor negatives were that we saw a bug in the bathroom and the people at the front desk were not that knowledgable or helpful. We found the concierge next door at the main part of the hotel much more friendly and helpful. Also, don't be fooled by the breakfast. It is not free, like at some other hotels.
