Although the Holiday Inn was in a busy, more industrial area, it was very quiet inside. The staff were polite and helpful. It is a 20 min tram ride to the city centre, but we enjoyed seeing more of the city that way. The tram, train and metro is two mins from the side entrance to the hotel. Buy a 24hr ticket (€7) on the tram to give you unlimited use of the tram abd metro all day. Tram stops are hard to find at first...you cannot hail a tram and stops are far fewer than for English buses, but we soon got used to the system. The hotel restaurant sells traditional Dutch food, as well as some bar food. It is a little pricey. Breakfast was outstanding....a huge choice from cooked to continental...though it was €22 a person. We had a 'kids eat free voucher' so that made it €11 each for us (2 adults and 2 teenagers) We filled up with breakfast then didn't eat again until the evening. Our room was clean and modern, but it contained too much furniture. The two arm chairs were impossible to sit in as they were jammed against the bed! The beds, described as 'Queen sized' at booking, were what an English person would describe as a standard double...very squashy for us as we are used to a super king! Only one pillow each was provided, so we asked for more, and they were delivered in minutes. The towels in the bathroom were terribly thin, but basic toiletries were provided. The maids did a fantastic job of tidying and cleaning our room each day. The coffee making facilities were hidden in a draw and we didn't find them until the last day! Just a couple of minutes walk from the Station, it only takes 10 mins or so to Centraal Amsterdam via Metro. The room we had was a corner room and was huge with a super king bed. Unfortunately you could only get wireless from the 9th floor up and we were on the 8th floor where you had to use a cable. The rooms are very nicely decorated and very clean, the shower was lovely and powerful over the bath. The hotel is modern and decorated very nicely. The only gripe we had was the mad cost of drinks.. and yes I know its a hotel but even sooo... 1 pint of lager and 1 brandy and coke = 16 euro! Needless to say that was the only couple of drinks we had there. We booked on the 2 for 1 package with holiday and got a fabulous rate. I wouldn't hesitate to revisit again. Read more Hide description
