2012-04-09, Satisfied customers:My boyfriend and I just came back from a week vacation at the Barcelo resort. We travelled with CanJet, which was great. Also keep in mind there's a 1h45 bus ride from the airport to the resort. I d idn't mind, I enjoyed seeing the villages around. I am not sure where are all the negative reviews comes from, because we actually had a great vacation there. Nothing is perfect, and I do believe people make a vacation a success or not. The resort is very big, you'll need some time to figure out your way around the site, but I don't see this as a problem. A bit of walking can't be that bad. Our initial room was on a first floor, but we asked for a change, and we got moved to another bungalow, this time on the third floor with ocean view for free, so we were quite pleased. Room was clean and nice. The mini fridge was restocked everyday. No complains here. Staff was fun and polite, management might lack a bit of organization overall, but nothing dramatic. Just like everywhere else, being nice to other people goes a long way. Now, the food. You can't go to Cuba with high food expectations. It's not all going to be food you are used to eat. I am a picky eater, and I just didn't eat what I was unsure about and that's it. You'll manage to fill up your plate, just don't expect it to be amazing. I personnally don't care all that much about the food, I go to Cuba for the beach and relax. There are line-ups for the buffet, I suggest going first thing when they open. The Italian à la carte was suprinsingly good, and the French one was ok. Beach is of course wonderful. White sand and clear blue water. Only downside is, too many people (big resort). Be prepared to wake up early, or you'll end up by the pool instead. Make sure to find someone to watch your stuff while you're not around, cause some people unfortunately have bad intentions. There's barmans walking along the beach taking people's orders, which I had never seen elsewhere. That was nice. There's also animation at the beach, depending on the weather. That wasn't our thing, but lots of people seemed to enjoy it. There's animation also at the theater at night, but after spending the whole days under the sun, we were quite tired, so we didn't see the shows. I heard mixed reviews about them, but you'll find out by yourself. Would I go back? I don't know, but only because it's so big, so lots of people. But for me, that's really the only reason that would maybe keep me from going back. Otherwise, try not to be influenced by all the bad reviews and see for yourself. Read more
